Hello

I am a Professor of Organisational Psychology specialising in leadership, decision-making, and crisis response. My work focuses on how people and organisations operate when situations are uncertain, time-pressured, and high-stakes. My research and consultancy with emergency services, the military, and community groups have enabled informed policy-making across businesses such as finance and pharma, as well as the NHS and the UK government.

Before academia, I worked in management consultancy, founded a business, and served in the British Army. These experiences strongly shape how I teach: evidence-based but practical, reflective, and grounded in real situations rather than theory alone.

I am a former Visiting Professor at the Defence Academy and Fire Service College and Expert Advisor to the Imperial War Museum on the psychology of courage. I design courses to help participants think clearly, make better decisions, and lead with confidence when Standard Operating Procedures no longer fit the situation.

Within university, I am passionate about enabling students to achieve their potential during their studies and make informed career choices when they leave. The value of my work on skills hass been acknowledged by employers and students alike.
